The better question is “What’s Not Cool About Manufacturing?” The answer is nothing! On February 28, 2017 I attended the What’s So Cool About Manufacturing Lehigh Valley contest at ArtsQuest in Bethlehem. Here is where more than 25 school districts in Lehigh Valley, Northampton, Carbon, and Schuylkill counties compete to win the best video.
Presented by Dream It. Do it. PA, the “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” contest gives eighth graders the opportunity to connect directly with local manufacturers, document their experiences and present them in an educational and “cool” way through film media.
My task in this event started last October with social media. I gathered all the schools and their manufacturers and created spreadsheets with their respective social medias. This included Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. I then gathered the sponsors and did the same.
Getting the social medias ready and ramping up their pages for the event made it that much more exciting when the ceremony was quickly approaching.
The event started at 7 P.M. February 28, 2017. The Sahl Comm team arrived at 5:45 P.M. to meet with the media and get the cameras and last minute preparations done. The venue was phenomenal with three floors of excitement. There was a cupcake area filled with amazing desserts, tables set up representing each manufacturer, and the main floor with a huge stage and seating area. It was overwhelming and exciting at the same time!
The awards presented were the Outstanding Videography, Outstanding Editing, Outstanding Creativity, Outstanding Cool, Outstanding Team Spirit, Outstanding Marketing Plan, Outstanding Brand Placement, Outstanding Educational Value, Viewer’ s Choice, Outstanding Overall Program, and the Sweet Manufacturing Award. The schools who won were East Stroudsburg J.T. Lambert, Nazareth Area, Northampton Area, Bethlehem Nitschmann Middle School, Parkland Orefield Middle School, Allentown Trexler Middle School, Pleasant Valley, Bethlehem Northeast Middle School, Northern Lehigh, Saucon Valley, Wilson Area, and Bethlehem Area Vocational-Tech.
During the announcement of the awards Tracey Werner and I tweeted and posted statuses on the What’s So Cool About Manufacturing social media accounts. We snapped a photo of each winner and broadcasted their achievements all over social media. We were sure to recognize each school even the non-winners for their hard work and dedication. Shortly after the ceremony ended at around 8:30 P.M.
Cupcakes from the Sweet Manufacturing Award were handed out for free upon exiting the venue. Who can possibly complain about free dessert?? It was truly an amazing event and well organized. Stay tuned for next week’s event in Berks County at Santander Performing Arts center in Reading, PA!
