Welcoming a Summer Intern

Hello… It’s me, *sings to the tune of Adele* I was wondering if you’d like to meet one of the new interns here at Sahl Communications.

I got into the elevator today with nothing but excitement. The last day of my first week here. Nine floors up to a gorgeous view, friendly faces and deadlines to meet. To me, everything here is new. New town. New people. New opportunities. So being that I’m new to you, allow me to introduce myself.

professionalMy name is Megan Webb and I’m a recent graduate from Millersville University with a degree in Speech Communication and an option in Public Relations. I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do with my degree after I graduated, so I sought out SahlComm because of the endless opportunities and experiences I knew I could gain through an internship.

I’ve always been one to pursue my passions to the fullest. I knew I wanted to find a career in Crisis Communications, Social Media, Public Relations, Media Relations or even SEO. Those are just a few of the many services SahlComm has to offer. When I read the mission statement of SahlComm, “to further the mission of others and to help improve humanity”, I knew this would be the perfect internship for me. The gorgeous view and tidy desk space were added bonus.

Three things I hope to get out of this internship:intern desk

  • Experience
  • Connections
  • Confidence

Of course, everyone wants to gain experience in their field. However, to gain experience in my field and being able to connect it with passions outside of my field is something I hope I can accomplish through my time as a SahlComm intern.

Fun fact about me: I consider myself Shark Week’s number one fan. It’s my favorite week of the year because 1. Sharks are awesome and 2. Ocean conservation is an important cause I hope to have a career in someday from the PR perspective. Pursuing my passion in saving the ocean is something I strive to do on a daily basis. At SahlComm, I found an opportunity to that.

SahlComm happens to have it’s very own fish, Gilly the SahlComm Fish, with his very own Facebook. My face light up when the CEO of whale sharkSahlComm, Kim Plyer, introduced me and told me I could help Gilly post about ocean conservation. SahlComm also has Steve the SahlComm Spider Monkey, and Tasha the SahlComm Tiger. Having an internship that I can get authentic experience from was one wish, but having the opportunity to help save the planet one Facebook post at a time will be a major plus!

I was an active PRSSA member for my last three semesters of college, and the first thing I learned was that networking and connections were two important things you can do in your field to get where you want to be. At SahlComm I hope to make those connections that someday I can look back and say “Remember when you met me as an intern, thanks for being part of my journey that got me where I am today”. In my first week here, I’ve already met friendly faces and people I know I can look up to for advice and guidance through my time as an intern and beyond.

Lastly, I hope to gain confidence. I want to take on challenges with enthusiasm. I want to be knowledgeable and gain expertise through my experiences and connections. I want to have people to look to for encouragement and inspiration.

I truly believe that my time at SahlComm will be all the above. I’m excited to have the opportunity to be part of this amazing team.
