My Internship Experience So Far…

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

So far my internship experience with Sahl Communications is going quite well! This is the first time I have ever interned anywhere. After I changed my major to advertising and had taken a few advertising specific classes, I realized that I did not have any experience in the field of Advertising or Communications. I decided I should seek out an opportunity to learn more about the industry and what kind of jobs are out there in the world of Communications. IMG_0361 (2)

I have been working as an intern with SahlComm for a little over a month now. I have gotten experience with writing press releases, working on email campaigns, learning to use the Public Relations software Cision, and writing social media posts for clients. During my second week here at SahlComm, I got to attend a press conference for Northampton County from the Public Relations perspective. Even though there were only about 5 reporters in attendance, many people were there, including a 69 News cameraman. It was an exciting experience to get to be a part of so early on in my internship.

I think that it is important to intern before getting out into the real world of a paying full-time job for many reasons. You get real world experience where you can get a sense of how day-to-day tasks really work in your area of interest. You get a chance to find out what it is you like and what it is you don’t like. You might find out that what you thought you wanted to do is not want you want to do at all, or you could end up finding the perfect job for you. Either way, you learn something that will help you in the future when looking for a job.

Internships allow students a chance to step outside of the classroom and actually put what they have been learning into action. You can network and meet people who can help you in the future when you are trying to get that full-time job. Having an internship on your resume will help you when applying for jobs because in the present day competitive job market, employers are looking for people who have experience with what they do. As a college student who didn’t have a lot of experience in the field of Communications, I would definitely recommend looking into and applying to internships you would be interested in doing.

Sahl Communications, Inc. is currently accepting applications for the Spring 2016 Internship Program. Marketing/Communications and Government Relations internship positions are available. Interns will be interviewed and chosen during the months of October and November 2015. If you want more information about the SahlComm Internship Program, visit http://www.sahlcomm.com/careers/
