I Think This is the Beginning of a Beautiful…Connection

Hello, my name is Sarah! I am a Communications/Marketing Intern at Sahl Communications. I am a rising Junior at Penn State University where I major in Advertising and hope to minor in Psychology. So I guess I’ll get started by explaining how I got into the field of Communications when my mom, dad, and brother are all engineers.

I actually started out at Penn State majoring in Food Science because, well, I love food and I thought it would be   interesting to see how it works on a chemical and physical level. There aren’t a ton of schools with a Food Science program but Penn State is known for its Creamery and I always loved their ice cream so I thought it would be cool to do something with that. However, I eventually found out that there was a big difference between liking to eat food and understanding the scientific principles behind it. I went through my freshman year and soon realized I really had no interest at all in what I was doing. Luckily, Penn State is a school with so many available majors to choose from. I spent a large amount of time searching for a major that I was interested in and that I could see myself actually enjoying.

Finally, I found the College of Communications. I met with an advisor and told her what it was I was interested in when I entered into the Food Science program. I was more interested in target audiences and how you could reach them with your product and message. My advisor introduced me to advertising and as soon as I started taking courses in Communications, I knew this is what I wanted to be studying and focusing on. In the future, I hope to work on advertising in the entertainment industry.

After I switched majors, I began working with a Career Advisor at school and was able to find out about Sahl Communications and the available intern positions. I am excited to be working here and getting experience in the Marketing/Public Relations field. I am looking forward to gaining some real world experience and knowledge about the Communications industry.

Well, that’s it for now. I’ll be posting about my experiences and what I’ve learned here. I can’t wait to see what else is in store!
